A Theoretical Explanation for Enhanced Nonlinear Response in Epsilon-Near-Zero Media

Abstract

We theoretically investigate the effects of a material’s linear permittivity e on its nonlinear response, showing that conversion efficiency increases as e decreases, consistent with other groups’ measurements of unusually high effective nonlinear refractive index in transparent conducting oxides.
