The Linewidth Enhancement Factor in a Microcavity Brillouin Laser

Abstract

Amplitude-phase coupling can enhance the linewidth of regenerative oscillators and lasers. Here, in Brillouin lasers, the coupling is shown to originate from phase mismatch. Linewidth enhancements as large as 50× are measured.
