Symmetry-Protected Higher-Order Exceptional Points in Staggered Photonic Rhombic Lattices

Abstract

We propose a scheme to realize parity-time-symmetric flatband systems by introducing on-site gain/loss to rhombic lattices with staggered couplings. Such non-Hermitian lattices possess chiral-symmetry-protected third-order exceptional points, exhibiting an ∼є1/3 eigenvalue separation.
