Direct band Ge photoluminescence at 1.6 µm coupled to Ge-on-Si microdisk resonators

Abstract

Germanium microdisks on silicon are fabricated and analyzed under various optical pumping conditions. WGMs are observed in transmission as well as PL via coupling to fiber tapers. It is concluded that heavy doping is required for lasing.
