Performance Guidelines for WDM Interconnects Based on Silicon Microring Resonators

Abstract

We derive fundamental performance tradeoffs that determine bandwidth and optical power budget in large-scale WDM links or networks utilizing silicon microresonators. Bandwidth per waveguide scales to >1THz, but nonlinearities limit optical power to milliwatt levels.
