Observations of temporal regenerative oscillations in high-Q heterostructured photonic crystal cavities

Abstract

Self-induced oscillation is experimentally observed in double-heterostructure photonic crystal cavities with intrinsic quality factor more than 500,000. The results are well-explained by nonlinear coupled mode theory including dynamics of free carriers, temperature and photon population.
