Abstract

In this work, emission cross-section dependence on temperature was observed experimentally in passively Q-switched Nd:YVO4/Cr4+:YAG laser. Heating the gain element from 30 °C to 70 °C, the Q-switch pulse energy at 100 Hz QCW pump was increased by three times from 60 µJ to 190 µJ and pulse duration was reduced by 30% from 2.5 ns to 1.8 ns, with peak power from 24 kW to 105 kW. With addition of heat dissipating SiC crystal, 1 kHz Q-switch pulses were achieved with pulse energy 170 µJ and duration of 1.8 ns, which corresponds to peak power of 91 kW.
