Abstract

We demonstrate stimulated Brillouin scattering in silicon photonics for the first time through a new class of hybrid photonic-phononic waveguides. Enhanced optical forces at nanoscales produce strong photon-phonon coupling and tailorable Brillouin resonances spanning 1-20GHz.
