Voltage Controlled Polarization Rotation from Berry’s Phase in Silicon Optical Microring Resonators

Abstract

We present an on-chip electrically tunable polarization rotator in silicon utilizing topological phase. Optical polarization is dynamically tuned between TE and TM modes with 9 dB polarization extinction ratio and 1.4 dB conversion loss.
