Noise and fluctuations in silicon photonics caused by free carrier and two-photon absorption

Abstract

Non-linear optical losses result from convergence of wafer scale economics and information theory in silicon nanophotonics. We discuss new sources of noise and fluctuations that arise from two-photon and free carrier plasma effects.
