Abstract

A magneto-optical Q switched laser was demonstrated using diode-laser pumped solid state laser cavity with a rare-earth substituted ferromagnetic garnet film. The Q factor of the cavity was rapidly controlled with the change of interference condition due to the magnetic domain motions in the ferromagnetic garnet. The pulse repetition was actively controlled by pulse magnetic field generator. The obtained pulse width was about 50 ns. The power was 2×107 times enhanced than that of continuous wave operation with magneto-optical Q switch.
