Abstract

We fabricate plasmonic-active SERS substrates by diatom biosilica through in-situ synthesis of in-pore silver nanoparticles. Such bioenabled multi-functional SERS substrate enables label-free detection of explosive molecules down to 2.7×10-15 gram on a single diatom frustule.
