Accurate Calculation of Modal Refractive Indices in Slightly Elliptical Optical Fibers

Abstract

We present a novel perturbation approach to accurately calculate the effects of core ellipticity on the modal propagation constants in step-index fibers. The method enables simple computation of the mode profiles and their effective indices.
