Efficient THz Generation in Long-Wavelength Infrared Quantum Cascade Lasers

Abstract

We report more than an order of magnitude improvement in the mid-IR-to-THz conversion efficiency in 1–3 THz sources based on intra-cavity difference-frequency generation in quantum cascade lasers designed to provide mid-infrared gain in 14~15μm range.
