Ultrafast Fiber Lasers in the Mid-IR Water Vapor Window

Abstract

We demonstrate record performance in a mid-IR ultrafast fiber laser by using holmium instead of erbium as the active gain medium. The 2.9 µm laser emits 180 fs pulses with 37 kW peak power.
