Focusing Metasurface Quantum-Cascade VECSEL

Abstract

A terahertz quantum-cascade vertical-external-cavity surface-emitting laser (VECSEL) is demonstrated using an active focusing metasurface. This enables a hemispherical cavity with flat optics, which exhibits an excellent beam pattern and higher stability than a plano-plano cavity.
