Nonreciprocal Modulation via Intermodal Brillouin Scattering in a Silicon Waveguide

Abstract

We report non-reciprocal optical modulation and mode conversion mediated by an optically-driven acoustic wave. Through this process, we experimentally demonstrate >20 dB of nonreciprocity over a >1 nm optical bandwidth in an integrated silicon waveguide.
