High-power edge-emitting terahertz plasmonic quantum-cascade laser

Abstract

A scheme to phase-lock multiple terahertz plasmonic microcavities is developed that establishes coherent plasmonic mode traveling in air. Using quantum-cascade gain media, a 3.3 THz edge-emitting plasmonic laser with record-high peak output-power of 256 mW is demonstrated.
