A dual-mode 2 × 2 semiconductor optical amplifier on an InP membrane

Abstract

A 2 × 2 mode-division multiplexed semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) is realized, first time to the authors’ knowledge. The TE0 and TE1 modes exhibit 6 dB and 4 dB gain, respectively, at 4.1 kA cm-2.
