Refractive Index Sensing With Laser-Induced Surface Waveguides

Abstract

We fabricate surface waveguides in a-SiO2 by direct laser writing. These waveguides can be used as refractive index sensors with extinction ratios as high as 5 dB/mm and sensitivities exceeding 1000 dB/RIU at 800 nm.
