Abstract

A ground-based coherent CO₂ lidar system is under construction at LMD / CNRS-Ecole Polytechnique. The project is supported by CNES (the french space agency) for future spaceborne applications. The main goals of the mid-term program are twofold : 1) to develop and assess the technology for coherent lidar applications; 2) to conduct scientific studies such as backscatter and Doppler wind field measurements among others. The pulsed CO₂ lidar is designed to acheive flexibility to be easily modified.
