Abstract

This paper is a companion paper to another conference paper entitled "Assessment of error sources for one component wind measurements with a space-based Doppler lidar" by Emmitt and Bilbro. In that paper the proposed lidar system is described and errors associated with the radial component measurement of the winds discussed. In this paper we focus upon the errors that arise out of combining these one-component observations into estimates of the total wind vector. These errors are of a totally different nature and have serious implications to the inclusion of lidar observed winds into numerical models.
