Abstract

The end-to-end system performance of a coherent lidar system can be expressed in terms of the autocovariance of the signal current in the detector. By following classical beam propagation techniques one can develop expressions for this autocovariance function and thereby isolate many of the various system functions for a clearer total system picture and a more convenient design process.
