Abstract
Space-borne global wind observation is considered a high-priority mission for the next two decades, in view of the unique benefits that operational meteorology and climate research would receive. A satellite-borne Doppler wind lidar has been recognised a potential corner-stone instrument of future wind-monitoring systems, due to its capability of measuring wind profiles on global scale with high accuracy.
