Abstract

The development of solid-state laser technology for coherent laser radar at MIT Lincoln Laboratory has been focused in the areas of frequency-modulatable, single-frequency master oscillators for chirped laser radars1,2 and Ho3+ lasers operating at 2.1 μm pumped by 1.9-μm diode lasers3. These Ho3+ lasers have the potential to scale to higher average power and energy per pulse than Tm-sensitized Ho3+ lasers pumped by 0.78-μm diode lasers.
