Nonlinear optimization for partially coherent phase recovery with Abbe’s method

Abstract

We propose an extension to our previously-developed nonlinear optimization method for partially coherent phase retrieval from a stack of through-focus intensity images. The forward model is formulated as an Abbe extended source method, where each source point incurs different pupil filtering. We compare to our previous model that approximates the forward physics as a convolution. The new method gives more accurate phase results and enables resolution beyond the coherent diffraction limit, at a cost of longer compute time.
