Abstract

Coherent optical orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (CO-OFDM) is proposed to combat dispersion in optical media. We show that optical-signal-to-noise-ratio (OSNR) penalty at 10 Gb/s is maintained below 2 dB for 3000 km transmission of standard-single-mode fibre (SSMF) without dispersion compensation.
