Coherent Optical Transponder at Femto–Watt Light Levels

Abstract

We investigated two schemes for coherent optical transponder at extremely low light levels. Optical phase locking at femtowatt levels has been demonstrated and characterized. We also discuss an alternative “injection seeded” approach, and ranging experiments.
