Ultralow Threshold Behavior of a Quantum-Dot Whispering-Gallery Microlaser

Abstract

The behavior of a laser consisting of HgTe quantum dots on a silica microsphere’s surface is compared to a thresholdless laser model. We find that approximately 25% of the spontaneous emission couples into lasing modes.
