Gravity Probe-B: New Control System Technology in Space

Abstract

The Gravity Probe-B is a new test of Einstein's General Theory of Relativity based on observations of gyroscopes in orbit around the Earth. Cryogenic techniques allow the development of very precise and stable gyroscopes and star-tracking telescope, and new techniques are developed for attitude and translational control of the spacecraft. Current NASA planning is for a launch around 1990.
