Multi-layered 3D display using a DMD with occlusion effect

Abstract

By using a digital micro mirror device, we generate occlusion effects in our depth-fused 3D display. The depth-fused 3D display presents 3D images by means of the depth-fusing effect. The depth fusing effect is one of optical illusion to recognize the depth of image between the image planes owing to the ratio of the intensity of the image planes. The occlusion effects make images be perceived as a real world but, in the depth-fused 3D display, to occur the depth fusing effect, images have to overlap well so occlusion effects are difficult to make.
