Diffractive elements designed to suppress unwanted zero order due to surface depth error

Abstract

We consider design approach where unwanted zero order intensity due to profile depth error in binary diffractive elements is reduced by introducing a third phase level thus relaxing the fabrication tolerances. The method is demonstrated numerically and experimentally.
