Long-Wave Infrared Diamond Microdisk High-Q Resonator

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

Microresonator Q drops dramatically as one moves from the mid-wave to long- wave infrared. Since diamond is transparent beyond about 7m, a 1mm diameter diamond microdisk resonator was fabricated. Its Q was measured to be 980 at 9.448μm, which is about an order of magnitude higher than other long-wave infrared cavities reported to date.
