Single-Photon Detector Based Long-Range Fibre-Optic Distributed Temperature Sensor

Abstract

We present a long-range distributed temperature sensor based on Raman scattering in single-mode fibre. Using high-extinction pulses, standard telecom components and single-photon avalanche detectors, we demonstrate a 50km sensor with 3m resolution.
