Abstract

A new technique to significantly simplify the generation and detection of arbitrary complex-field optical waveforms is presented, inspired by temporal counterparts of spatial-domain holography concepts. An 8-QAM signal is generated using a single Mach-Zehnder modulator and an optical bandpass filter.
