Abstract
We provide a methodology to dimension the interleaver duration for free-space optical links. We validate it on an FPGA transceiver by emulating ground-geostationary strong turbulence conditions. 150ms interleaver reduces launch power by two orders of magnitude, making it compliant with commercially-available amplifiers to transmit 10Gbit/s.
