Simulations and Measurements of Spontaneously Initiated Brillouin Scattering in Optical Fibers

Abstract

Using a stochastic model, we simulate the spontaneously initiated Brillouin scattering in a single-mode optical fiber. In comparing our model with measurements, we find that the model successfully reproduces both the characteristics of the stochastic time traces and the resulting spectra.
