An Erbium-Doped Fibre Amplifier with Widely Variable Gain Employing Integrated Components on a Planar Lightwave Circuit

Abstract

A 24 dB gain-range variable gain erbium-doped fibre amplifier with a 1.2 dB noise figure variation is demonstrated employing thermo-optic switches, variable optical attenuators, and pump/signal multiplexers integrated on a single planar lightwave circuit.
