An Upstream Reach-Extender for 10Gb/s PON Applications Based on an Optimised Semiconductor Amplifier Cascade

Abstract

We present a reach-extender based on a semiconductor amplifier cascade which achieves 12dB compression of the input dynamic range whilst also limiting patterning. A 70km reach is demonstrated over a 32-split 10Gb/s passive optical network.
