Non-Intrusive In-Service PMD Measurements: A Novel Approach Based on Coherent Detection

Abstract

We describe a novel method for in-service Polarization Mode Dispersion measurements and compare its accuracy with the Jones matrix eigen-analysis method. A relative accuracy of 4% is reported over a 1-50ps mean DGD range.
