Abstract

Multiconical far-field patterns were predicted by a linear analysis of a model of the passive ring cavity that generalizes Ikeda equations including the diffraction effects inside the cavity. Here we study the role of a diaphragm, which inhibits the formation of any transverse component of the electric field with wave-vector k larger than kw. Our aim is to understand the role of the various unstable transverse wave-vectors in the process of pattern formation, either in the case of a single conical emission, or in the case of multiconical emission.
