Mechanisms for optical nonlinearity and dynamics of photoexcited carriers in semiconductor nanocrystals: femtosecond nonlinear transmission study

Abstract

We report on time-resolved nonlinear transmission measurements of CdSe nanocrystals (NCs) excited by femtosecond laster pulses with photon energies 2 and 4 eV. The dynamics of differential transmission spectra (DTS) in case of 2-eV excitation is explained in terms of the transition from two- to one-electron-hole-pair state. The DTS recorded for 4-eV excitation indicate a transient red shift of the lowest optical transition attributed to Coulomb two-pair interaction (biexciton effect).
