Abstract
Transverse effects in nonlinear (NL) optics have been attracting a lot of attention recently, both from a fundamental as well as from an applied point of view. The numerically and experimentally observed patterns in the transverse plane are indeed a beautiful, interesting, and apparently widespread example of complex behavior in nonlinear optical systems. Our contribution is concerned with the study of a single mode NL optical resonator, as described by the so-called modal equation for the envelope F of the field inside the resonator.1
