Abstract
The discovery of the geometric phase by Berry has revealed the remarkable similarity between the variety of different physical phenomena. In particular, the geometric-like behavior has been observed for the laser field phase in the numerical experiment.2 Recently Ning and Haken have presented the rigorous theory for the geometric phase arising in nonlinear dynamics of dissipative systems3 and have demonstrated the formal applicability of their theory to some laser systems. However, they gave no examples of experimentally observable manifestations of the geometric phase in such systems. Apart from that, the theory of Ning and Haken is valid for cyclic evolutions, when the system periodically returns to its initial state, except for some phase shift.
