Abstract

The effects of Coulomb scattering in low-temperature plasma on a three-level system remain unstudied, despite its substantial influence on the spectral and energetic characteristics of ionic Raman laser. A lasing of this type is recently demonstrated by Wellegehausen.1 The effective upconversion from 648 into 437 nm in continuous mode is achieved with argon ions. The experiment has succeeded in adopting the transition for efficient generation, whereas collisional effects remain beyond the scope of the investigation. The main purpose of the present paper is to include the collision effects into consideration.
