Abstract

Nowdays a great attention is attracted to the additive-pulse mode-locking and Kerr lens mode-locking techniques1,2in order to get ultrashort soliton-like pulses. Here we present another mechanism of pulse formation that is different from nonlinear Schrödinger soliton formation. The intracavity cell with coherent absorber (the bandwidth of the absorber T2p1 much less than the gain one T2A1) is able to initiate the self-induced transparency (SIT)3soliton generation. Theory is developed for dye and diode lasers with cw pumping.
