Abstract

In atom optics the free time evolution of an atomic wave function ψ (κ, t) in momentum space is given by (ħ κ quasi-momentum, m mass of the atom). This mathematical form is equivalent to the Fresnel equation in light optics for the light amplitude (in diffraction space) (k/2π spatial frequency, λ wavelength of the light, z distance between object and image plane).
