Abstract
Transverse pattern formation was predicted in a laser beam passing through a thin Kerr slice and retroflected by a mirror, provided the intensity slightly exceeds a given threshold.1 If the laser beam can be approximated with a uniform plane wave, numerical simulation1 and experiment2 showed that the emerging pattern is always a stationary hexagonal array of bright filaments.
