Abstract

In the past several years great progress has been made in the generation of very intense ultra-short laser pulses. With the use of chirped pulse amplification techniques, peak intensities of the order of 1020 W/cm2 can nowadays be reached. These developments have created opportunities for studying a variety of new interesting high intensity phenomena.
