Abstract
Over the past several years a great deal of progress has been made towards generating ultrashort electron pulses for a variety of applications.1,2 These include time resolved low-energy electron diffraction studies of surface reconstruction and the generation of ultrashort x-ray pulses. Using current technology, electron pulses in the 50-femtosecond time range appear to be possible.1
